MICHOLE Sorela and Jerwin Gaco conspired in helping McDavid break through in the 2019 PBA D-League with a 73-68 win over Family Mart-Enderun on Monday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
The former San Beda forward Sorela got things going early, firing 19 of his 22 points in the first half as the newcomers exerted control and grabbed a 52-36 halftime lead.
McDavid even held a 19-point lead in the third quarter, 63-44, but Family Mart-Enderun slowly swallowed that lead and got to within two, 70-68, after a Fonso Gotladera three-point play in the final 2:04.
Unfortunately, Valandre Chauca flubbed his numerous chances to tie the game, the most painful of which his pass being perfectly telegraphed by Jerick Canada that led to Rev Diputado putting the game away at the charity stripe.
"Na-manage lang namin yung halfcourt defense namin. After a missed shot, nagkakaroon sila ng run pero in spite of it, pumunta ako kay Jerwin sa loob. Sabi ko sa kanya, 'Pare, barakuhin mo na sa loob,' at yun ang nangyari," said coach Allen Ricardo.
Gaco provided stability for McDavid in the clutch as he wound up with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Janus Lozada added 14 points and three boards, while Diputado got five of his 12 in the fourth, on top of three rebounds and three assists.
McDavid snapped its four-game losing skid to improve to 1-4 in the Aspirants Group, leaving Family Mart-Enderun at the bottom of the standings at 0-5.
Chauca paced the Titans with a near triple-double of 17 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds, as Gotladera saw his 16-point, 15-rebound effort go down the drain.
