MARINERONG Pilipino leaned on scintillating start to clobber also-ran Zark's Burger, 119-74, in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.
Pao Javelona led all scorers with 17 points off the bench to go with four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
John Lopez chipped in 15, while Mark Isip, Ralp Salcedo, and Dave Moraldo each had 12.
"We just wanted to break their spirits early on, pound them, and attack them," said Marinerong Pilipino coach Koy Banal.
"The players responded even if we found out that Mac [Cardona] is playing. Binalanse lang namin, hindi namin masyadong ni-highlight, just for us to be aware lang."
The Skippers raced off to a 27-15 start and never let up to remain in the hunt for a quarterfinals slot with a 3-4 tally.
The lead ballooned to 38 points after Donald Gumaru nailed a jumper with 3:45 remaining in the payoff period, 106-68.
Not even the presence of comebacking Cardona could salvage the Jawbreakers from that hole as they went on to absorb their eighth loss in nine matches.
Cardona looked good in his return to competitive basketball after a long layoff as he registered 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
It was Robbie Celiz, though, who carried the bulk of the load for the Jawbreakers with 16 points.
