MARINERONG Pilipino-TIP claimed the third seed in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup after subduing Centro Escolar University, 81-72, on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Kimlee Medina scored seven straight points to cap the Engineers’ 11-0 blast for a 76-67 lead with 3:27 remaining before Trevis Jackson put the finishing touches to the win with his own run of five unanswered points
Robbie Manalang led Marinerong Pilipino-TIP with 21 points on a 5-of-9 shooting from threes. Jackson poured seven of his 18 in the fourth quarter, along with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Medina added 11 and five.
“Nothing special,” said Marinerong Pilipino-TIP coach Koy Banal. "We just want to go to the playoffs on a high note. It’s a good thing the players were able to step up, especially on the defensive end.”
The Engineers (6-4) now await the loser of the Che’Lu-Go for Gold game, with the winner taking on CEU (5-5) in their respective best-of-three semifinals series, set to begin next week.
Rich Guinitaran led the Scorpions in the losing effort with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Orlan Wamar had 13.
