    Diouf sparks fourth-quarter surge as CEU Scorpions beat Marinerong Pilipino

    CENTRO Escolar University used a strong fourth quarter explosion to drub Marinerong Pilipino, 93-76, on Tuesday and remain unbeaten in the 2019 PBA D-League at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

    Maodo Malick Diouf fired 10 of his 22 points in that finishing kick, while also finishing with 19 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

    The Senegalese big man was the difference maker as he led the Scorpions' 32-point fourth quarter outburst.

    Keanu Caballero chipped in 17 points, six assists, three boards and two steals, Tyron Chan got 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Judel Fuentes had 14 points, two rebounds and two assists as CEU remained on top of the Foundation Group at 6-0.

    "We just got to be ready for every situation," reflected coach Derrick Pumaren. "They're able to catch up and get the lead, but we're able to regroup, kept our poise, and played defense. That's what has been keeping us to where we are."

    Anton Asistio topped the Skippers with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists as he powered his side's rally in the third period to take a 57-56 advantage.

    But Chan was quick to grab the lead back for CEU, using that momentum to score the 17-point win.

    Kib Montalbo added 16 points, six steals, four rebounds, and two assists, as Santi Santillan had 11 and eight in the losing cause as Marinerong Pilipino dropped to an even 3-3 card.
