MAODO Malick Diouf smashed the PBA D-League record for most rebounds in a game as Centro Escolar University defeated Valencia City Bukidnon-SSCR, 71-65, on Tuesday in the 2019 PBA D-League at Paco Arena in Manila.
The Senegalese big man had 30 boards, on top of 21 points, four blocks and three assists for the Scorpions.
"I wanted to give him a break, but when I pulled him out (in the second quarter) all of a sudden San Sebastian came back and he really asserted himself inside," said coach Derrick Pumaren of Diouf.
The mark erased the previous league-record of 29 rebounds set by JayR Taganas with AMA in a 75-70 loss to Cagayan Valley exactly five years prior.
Jan Formento added 16 points, two rebounds and two assists off the bench, Christian Uri had 13 points, five boards, and four dimes and Keanu Caballero got 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Diouf guided the Scorpions to a 19-5 spurt in the first quarter before the Golden Harvest rallied back and took a 34-25 lead with the slotman on the bench.
But when the 6-foot-11 center came back, CEU rebounded in style, holding off Valencia-SSCR to take the W.
CEU leads the Foundation Group at 4-0.
Valencia-SSCR, meanwhile, suffered its first defeat to drop to 3-1.
