MACLEAN Sabellina scored 12 of his 16 points in the third quarter before suffering a broken finger in the final few seconds as the undermanned Jumbo Plastic Linoleum defeated Wangs Basketball, 81-65, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Giants recorded their third win in four games, tying Café France for third place.
Sabellina broke his right finger while scoring on a lay-up with only a few seconds on the clock and was immediately taken to a hospital.
Jumbo Plastic had already lost a few key players in Brian Heruela, who made his return to the PBA, and Janus Lozada, who joined the DELeague in Marikina.
The Giants pulled away in the third period, outscoring Wangs Basketball, 30-15, for the biggest gap of the game at 62-42.
“Nag-gamble ako ng first half dahil ginamit ko ’yung mga hindi masyadong nakakalaro na galing sa injury. Sa second half, nag-concentrate na ako sa eight-man rotation ko,” said Jumbo Plastic coach Steve Tiu.
Denice Villamor had a team-high 17 points for the Giants.
Wangs Basketball dropped to 2-2.
