PHOENIX Petroleum-Far Eastern University banked on a late surge to cruise past BDO-National University, 90-74, and get back on the winning track in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
Mac Belo spearheaded the run, firing 14 of his 19 points in the payoff period for the Accelerators, who won for the fourth time in five outings, recovering from their first loss of the conference to Caida Tiles last week.
Mike Tolomia carried the Accelerators early, finishing with a game-high 25 points and 10 assists on top of six boards in just 26 minutes, while Raymar Jose added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Accelerators, who moved to second spot in a tie with Caida,
Phoenix also added to the misery of the Bulldogs, who tote a win-loss record of 1-4.
BDO, though, engaged the Accelerators in a close battle, before folding in the final frame.
“We have to play consistent basketball both on offense and defense,” Accelerators coach Eric Gonzales said. “Even if you don’t shoot, as long as we move the ball, I’m happy.”
J-Jay Alejandro led the Bulldogs in a losing effort with 20 points, while Alfred Aroga added 19 markers and 19 caroms after coming off a scoreless outing.
