KEVIN Ferrer played the hero’s role in his debut with Tanduay, hitting a triple that sent the Rhum Masters to a 75-74 win over CafeFrance on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Just a day after signing a deal to play with the Rhum Masters, Ferrer finished with nine points and five rebounds but his last basket proved to be the difference as Tanduay notched their seventh win in 10 outings.
The former University of Santo Tomas stalwart hit a triple with 39.2 seconds to play to put Tanduay up, 75-74, before the Rhum Masters' defense preserved the win over erstwhile league-leader CafeFrance.
“Sana lagi na lang ganun, na matatalo namin sila,” said Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson. “It's one of those games where we got lucky. You really need to bring your A-game and a little bit of luck to beat this team.”
Reden Celda led Tanduay with 17 points and kept the Rhum Masters in the game against CafeFrance, which is now tied for first place with Phoenix at 7-2.
“He kept us in there,” said Chongson. "We were down but siguro maganda ang gising nya ngayong araw."
