JUMBO Plastic survived Cafe France's repeated rallies to register a 74-70 win at JCSGO Gym in Cubao on Monday, its second straight victory in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
The Giants led by twin digits in the first half but found themselves up by just two points, 70-68, with a minute and 18 seconds remaining.
Jason Ballesteros and Jan Colina scored to widen the gap and help Jumbo Plastic seal the win.
The Giants were up by 15 at the end of the first canto, 20-5, and was still 14 points ahead at the half, 44-30, before the Bakers made a run.
Eliud Poligrates, Jens Knuttel, Josan Nimes and Rod Ebondo came up with a combined 32-point production for the Bakers in the second half to threaten the Giants.
"Medyo nagrelax ang mga players, nagkumpyansa masyado pero still a win is a win," said Jumbo Plastic coach Steve Tiu.
Colina and Elliot Tan finished with 14 points each for the Giants, Ballesteros added 13 and Harry Petilos scored 10 for Jumbo Plastic (2-0).
"Mas maganda ang team ngayon compared last conference, 'yung mga veterans namin gina-guide 'yung young guys," said Tiu.
Poligrates, who was picked by Talk N Text in the third round of the PBA draft, led the Bakers with 19 points. Mike Parala and Knuttel, also drafted by pro teams on Sunday, had 12 and 10 markers respectively. Parala was drafted by Meralco and Knuttel was picked by Ginebra.
