JOSHUA Munzon may have gotten himself a piece of history, but what eats him alive is not getting the job done.
The Fil-Am swingman scored 46 points on Tuesday to mark the second-best scoring performance in PBA D-League history.
However, a win didn't come with it as UST took the gritty 113-108 as AMA suffered its first defeat in the 2019 PBA D-League.
"It's definitely tough," he rued. "We gave up a lot of easy shots, we broke down a lot on defense. I feel like everybody tried their hardest, but it was just the little things that we just gave up on towards the end. We fell apart mentally as a team."
Munzon became only the fifth player to notch 40 in the developmental ranks, but said he was not going for the records.
"I was just trying to win the game, honestly. Not really thinking about how many points I was going for, but just trying to win the ball game. That was basically my mindset," he said.
The 24-year-old Munzon scored 16 of the Titans' last 22 points, including the game-tying triple with 55.4 remaining that knotted the score at 106.
But like what Munzon noted, mental lapses caused his side the game, with Sherwin Concepcion quickly retorting with the go-ahead three with 44.9 seconds remaining before Franky Johnson was called for a deliberate foul that all but took the life out of AMA.
Defeated as the Titans are, Munzon can hold his head high as he's finally easing in his new team and the game in the PBA D-League.
"It's tough to judge with a loss, but at the same time, I definitely feel a little bit better out there," he said. "My shots weren't falling early in the game but as the game went on I got a little more comfortable and shots started falling. So I just hope to continue this play in the upcoming games."
