JOSHUA Fontanilla typified BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare's all-out assault as the Saints ripped McDavid-La Salle Araneta, 112-100, to gain a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The speedy guard had 24 points on a 3-of-7 clip from beyond the arc, to go with six assists and three steals as the Saints stayed unbeaten at 4-0.
Junjie Hallare ushered BRT Sumisip-St. Clare's early spurt, scoring 11 of his 12 points in the first half, on top of five rebounds and two assists as the Saints led by as many as 24 points.
McDavid-La Salle Araneta mounted a late fightback behind Henry Iloka, getting the lead down to 10 points, 110-100, but it was too little too late for the Stallions as they remained winless through four outings.
"Akala nila easy going na open court, pataasan lang ng score. So sinabi ko na i-treat natin ang every team as a challenge," said coach Stevenson Tiu after the Saints allowed McDavid-La Salle Araneta to shoot 44-percent from the field.
"Taken for grated nila yung defense. May moments na good pero may times na nagpapabaya. Kailangan ma-check namin yung tendencies na ganyan."
Irven Palencia also got himself 14 points for the Saints, Clarence Tiquia got 12, and Malian big man Mohammad Pare tallied 13 points, 17 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The Stallions got another huge performance from Nigerian center Henry Iloka, who registered 32 points, 28 rebounds and six blocks.
Eduardo Doroteo added 22 points, seven boards and two assists, while Jobert Medina had 15 points, six dimes and four rebounds for the Stallions.
