JOSHUA Fontanilla feels fortunate to not just win a championship with BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, but more than anything, learn from his veteran peers.
"Sobrang dami kong natutunan sa kanila, lalo yung mga kulang sa amin at sa mga decision making ko. Kung ano yung alam nila, naipapangaral nila sa amin," he said.
Fontanilla has made the most of his time with the Saints, absorbing lessons from his seasoned teammates like Leo Gabo and Jhaps Bautista.
And it shows, with him playing stupendously not just in the developmental ranks, but also for St. Clare in NAASCU as it won its fourth straight title.
"Sobrang worth it kasi lahat kami naghirap," said the 21-year-old guard as he won two championships in a span of a week.
"Alam namin kung ano yung sinakripisyo namin isa't-isa bawat training. Minsan nagkakasakitan pa kami kas gusto naming maganda yung ensayo. Kaya mabuti na nagbunga ang lahat."
Fontanilla has already proven his case as arguably one of the top young court generals outside of the UAAP and the NCAA with his fine play for St. Clare.
Wherever his career path may take him in the future, he's just happy to have the week he has, winning championships and adding those to his still growing trophy case.
"Hindi lang naman kami yung gusto mag-champion eh. Pero isa lang ang goal namin at pinagtulungan namin yun para makuha. Nagbunga itong pangarap namin."
