Tanduay concern over Sollano, Arong no-shows allayed as manager gives assurance

    Jan 4, 2017
Jom Sollano and Monbert Arong failed to show up for the Tanduay practices of Lawrence Chongson during the holidays.

ALL’S well it seems in the Tanduay front as the manager of its top picks Jom Sollano and Monbert Arong assured the two will finally show up for practice soon and sign up with the Rhum Masters.

Edgar Mangahas, representatives of Sollano and Arong, assured the two will appear in Tanduay’s practice either on Thursday and Friday as they are now about to return to Manila from their provinces following a long holiday vacation.

Earlier, Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson confirmed a SPIN.ph report that Sollano and Arong have not signed with the team until now as they have yet to show up for the Rhum Masters practices even after the holidays as the team prepares for the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Chongson said they even sought the help of the PBA and has been told by the league that Sollano and Arong could sit out two seasons in the D-League if both players don't sign with Tanduay.

“We already got assurance from Eric Castro (PBA D-League official) na ‘naka-lock’ na sila sa amin. Continued refusal will mean they will sit out for two years,” said Chongson.

Chongson expressed concern over the non-appearance of the 2016 draft's second overall pick Sollano and second round selection Arong as they are seen as potential cornerstones of the Rhum Masters campaign this season. Sollano and Arong were part of the championship teams of Letran and Far Eastern University, respectively, in 2015 before applying for this year's PBA D-League draft.

But Mangahas said they will already be meeting the team, explaining that they were unable to sign because they were in the middle of the vacation.

“Galing kasi sila ng Cebu at Samar. Mahirap din kung uuwi ng December 26 kasi sayang naman ‘yung pamasahe nila. Hinihintay din nila ako kasi nag-bakasyon din ako,” said Mangahas.

Chongson was also concerned when he heard rumors that Sollano was already spotted in practices with another PBA D-League team a month before the draft, but refused to divulge the identity of the team.

Mangahas didn’t deny the interest of other teams in Sollano and Arong, but said they will stay with the team that drafted the two players.

“Sila ang nag-draft sa kanila kaya doon kami,” said Mangahas.

Chongson said the doors of Tanduay are definitely open for the two even with only two weeks remaining before the Aspirants Cup.

“Welcome pa rin sila sa team. Okay lang sa akin. Wala na sa akin ‘yun basta magpakita sila sa practice. Hopefully, they show up soon and common sense will prevail,” said Chongson.
