KERAMIX snapped its two-game skid with a huge upset win over Aspirants Cup champion Hapee, 77-73, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Jiovanni Jalalon scored 12 points while Jeff Viernes had 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists as the 1-2 guard-combination powered the Mixers to their third win in five games, moving them to third spot behind Cebuana Lhuillier (4-0) and Café France (3-1).
“Jio and Jeff playing at the same time really changed the complexion of the game,” said KeraMix coach Caloy Garcia.
“I just told the boys that if we want to go deep this conference, we have to beat Hapee,” Garcia added.
Hapee dropped to 2-2 despite the return of Bobby Ray Parks from a shoulder injury. He finished with seven points.
Jam Jamito of KeraMix was slapped with a flagrant foul after a hit on Kirk Long at the six-minute mark of the third quarter. The hit triggered a fracas that led to technical fouls on Jalalon, and Arvie Bringas and Nico Elorde of Hapee.
Garcia and Hapee officials Bernard Yang and IB Bautista were also called for technical fouls for entering the court.
“There are calls that I don’t understand. They allow too much. It’s okay for me as long as it’s consistent. It can’t be one-sided. ’Yun ang reklamo namin kasi parang the referees are calling too much especially ’yung nangyayari sa harap namin.
“Antayin pa nilang magkagulo bago sila tumawag,” Garcia added.
Chris Newsome and Troy Rosario scored 15 points each for Hapee.
