JERON Teng lived up to expectations as AMA Online Education repulsed Batangas, 101-95, to kick off the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday.
The former La Salle star exploded for 42 points, including five of the last six free throws that sealed the win for the Titans. He embellished his league debut with seven rebounds, and six assists.
Juami Tiongson and Ryan Arambulo added 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Titans.
"Sa kanya nagsisimula leadership ng team namin. Ine-expect namin na sya mag-carry ng team namin ngayon," AMA coach Mark Herrera said of Teng.
The son of former PBA Alvin Teng, drafted first overall in the draft last December, also spearheaded a furious 16-2 run that gave AMA a commanding 89-72 lead with under six minutes left.
Batangas refused to go down without a fight and closed in the final stretch, 94-87.
Teng and Tiongson took over from there, scoring the last seven points to put the finishing touches to the rousing victory before a jampacked crowd.
Joseph Sedurifa paced Batangas with 25 points.
