WITH Jeron Teng getting into foul trouble, Gab Banal took charge in the third quarter to power Flying V to a 107-96 victory over Wangs Basketball on Thursday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
After playing sluggish basketball in the first 20 minutes, the Thunder got going and went on a 10-0 spurt to enter the final period with an 86-80 advantage.
They widened the lead, 105-92, on a Thomas Torres shot from the stripe with 1:18 to go.
Banal wound up with 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
Teng still finished with 20 points on 7-of-20 shooting clip while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Aris Dionisio also provided the spark off the bench, scattering 14 points to go with 10 rebounds.
The Thunder racked up their third straight victory while the Couriers dropped to 1-2.
"I thought in the first half we didn't do a good job defensively. Our second unit gave us a big lift," said Flying V coach Eric Altamirano.
Robbie Herndon finished with 24 points for the Couriers.
