JENS Knuttel looks forward to a Far Eastern University reunion, eager to join a core of Tamaraws who will suit up for Phoenix Petroleum in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
Knuttel suits up for the Accelerators when they open their Foundation Cup campaign on Tuesday against Tanduay at the JCSGO gym, teaming up with UAAP Season 78 finals MVP Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia, and Roger Pogoy.
While he didn’t play alongside them during his career in the UAAP, Knuttel said he knows most of the players from FEU since he has been an ardent supporter of the squad and a fixture at Tamaraws games even after he graduated.
"Excited ako kasi mga kilala ko naman sila," said Knuttel, 27.
Taken in the sixth round of the 2013 PBA Draft by Barangay Ginebra, Knuttel was traded to Barako Bull, which was later purchased by Phoenix Petroleum before the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, paving the way for an FEU reunion.
Knuttel brings in experience to the point guard position for the Accelerators squad, although the 27-year-old downplays his contribution to a team made up of proven winners in the UAAP and the D-League.
“Maganda naman ‘yung sistema nila. Hindi naman ‘to guide’ kasi mga national team players sila. Kumbaga to add depth lang sa line-up. Pero siyempre, as a point guard, I want to be a leader for them. Kung ano man ‘yung experience ko noon at sa PBA, mashe-share ko,” said Knuttel.
Knuttel and the Accelerators will look to make it back-to-back after winning the Aspirants Cup finals series against CafeFrance.
