MARINERONG Pilipino smashed Chadao-FEU, 87-63, on Monday to win back-to-back games in the 2019 PBA D-League at Paco Arena in Manila.
Jed Mendoza ignited the blowout, scoring six in the Skippers' 16-3 tear in the third period that doused the Tamaraws' fightback from 11-points down, 44-33, at the half.
Alec Stockton's fastbreak layup cut the Chadao-FEU deficit down to four, 44-40, but Mendoza waxed hot for Marinerong Pilipino's response to grab a 17-point lead, 60-43, in the last three minutes of the frame.
The 21-year-old sniper from JRU finished with 16 points and nine rebounds as the Skippers moved up to 2-1 in the Foundation Group.
Santi Santillan paced Marinerong Pilipino with 19 points, nine boards and two assists, while Anton Asistio went 4-of-9 from deep to wound up with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Matthew Aquino, the son of former Ginebra star Marlou Aquino, added 10 points and five rebounds for Marinero in his PBA D-League debut.
"Yung mga players ng Marinero, ngayon lumalabas yung extra work nila on their skills. Ine-expect ko talaga na darating yung ganitong games para sa amin," said coach Yong Garcia.
Stockton fired 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for Chadao-FEU, which suffered its second straight defeat to fall to 1-2.
