JAY-R Taganas converted the game-winning basket with 2.2 seconds left as AMA University beat Tanduay Light, 76-74, on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO gym.
Off an inbound pass by Oda Tampus, Taganas was left wide open in the paint, scoring a short jumper to break a 74-74 tie.
The former San Beda Red Lion missed the bonus free throw but still Taganas wound up carrying the Titans to a win this time. Last week, the Taganas grabbed a league-high 29 rebounds in a losing effort against Cagayan Gerry’s.
Taganas finished with a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds against Tanduay Light.
“Isa yan sa mga pinagkakatiwalaan natin,” said AMA coach Mark Herrera. “Si Jay-R kasi kahit sa ensayo, pinupukpok namin para makundisyon sa laro.”
Dexter Maiquez had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tampus and James Martinez had 11 markers each.
The Rhum Masters, who took an early 16-point lead, fell to 1-2.
Roi Sumang had 13 points and Aljon Mariano added 11 but missed a running jumper that left the door open for AMA to claim the win.
