CIGNAL-San Beda overcame a sluggish first half to upend Wangs Basketball, 84-77, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Jason Perkins had 19 points and 18 rebounds to spearhead the Hawkeyes’ attack as they claimed their second win in three outings.
The Hawkeyes, who also got 15 points from Javee Mocon, found their rhythm after trailing by 45-39 midway through the contest.
“Credit to Wangs. They really prepared against us. It’s a lesson from everyone,” said Cignal-San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
Fernandez felt Cignal-San Beda played passive in the first half, allowing Wangs to take control.
“Everytime we come in, we have to play positive and active. We have to match-up the energy of the other teams. Wangs wants to win. Kami malamya. But then again, second half, we started strong,” said Fernandez.
Pamboy Raymundo also came up big in the clutch, firing a triple with 2:08 left in the fourth to give Cignal an 80-77 lead before hitting free throws in the end game.
Marlon Gomez had 22 points and 12 reounds for Wangs, who fell to 1-2.
