CAIDA Tile used a big third quarter to beat AMA Online Education, 122-97, on Tuesday and advance to the semifinals of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Jason Perkins, Philip Paniamogan and Jamil Gabawan combined for 21 points in the third as the Tile Master outscored AMA, 42-23, en route to victory.
Perkins finished with 17 points, Paniamogan wound up with 16 and Jamil Gabawan had 10.
Caida coach Caloy Garcia was pleased with the win but pointed out the team failed to play good defense throughout, giving up too many baskets in the first half that saw the Tile Master lead by only four points, 51-47.
“We played a good first quarter pero nung pumasok ‘yung second group, we gave up too many layups. In the third quarter, we put some pressure and played better defense,” said Garcia.
Jiovani Jalalon had 10 points and 10 assists for Caida, which will face Phoenix Petroleum, which beat BDO National University.
“I always tell them that we have talented players who can score but the only problem is if we can share the ball because we have tendencies not to pass the ball on wide open shooters,” said Garcia.
Rashawn McCarthy score 20 for AMA.
