GARVO Lanete is already psyching himself to play in the semifinal round of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup after sustaining a shoulder injury in NLEX’s Thursday match against Derulo Accelero.
Lanete collided with Derulo Accelero’s Jett Manuel in the second quarter of the Road Warriors’ 111-64 win, its impact was so hard the ex-San Beda Red Lion never returned to the game.
But Lanete was relieved to receive news on Friday he only sustained a minor sprain in his right shoulder.
“Masakit kasi siya at namamaga. Hindi pa ako sure if makakalaro ako sa last two elimination round games namin,” said Lanete after a check-up with renowned sports doctor George Canlas.
With the Road Warriors already assured of an outright semifinal berth after posting a 10-1 win-loss slate, Lanete said he will accept if he’ll be rested by the team in its last two outings against Cagayan Valley on Tuesday and Zambales M-Builders on Thursday.
“If ever hindi man (ako makalaro), paghahandaan ko ‘yung semifinals. Mas importante naman ‘yun,” said Lanete, who was part of the Sinag Pilipinas team that won the basketball gold in the Myanmar Southeast Asian Games last month.
NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez said the team will be cautious in utilizing Lanete for the remainder of the eliminations as he has been one of the key players for the Road Warriors this conference.
“He is day-to-day. I need to rest him so that he will be ready for the playoffs. But if he can play, I’ll let him play,” said Fernandez.
