HOG’S Breath Café held Blackwater Sports without a field goal in the final six minutes to come away with a 73-63 victory on Tuesday at the Trinity University of Asia gym to fortify its bid for a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup quarterfinal round.

Kevin Racal, Paul Sanga and Jamil Gabawan scored the bulk of the points in a 16-3 finish for the come-from-behind victory.

The Razorbacks solidified their hold of fourth place by improving their win-loss record to 9-3. Cagayan Valley (8-4) and Café France (7-4) are in fifth and sixth place respectively.

The top two teams advance to the semifinals outright, while the third and fourth-placed teams at the end of the eliminations get twice-to-beat advantages in the quarterfinals.

“We don’t want to be in a possible triple tie at 8-5 because tanggal kami (sa incentive) based on quotient,” said Hog’s Breath Café coach Caloy Garcia.

Racal finished with 14 points, while Gabawan and Sanga each had 10 points for the Razorbacks, who also had an 11-0 run including a three-point play by Gabawan to grab the lead, 62-61.

“We adjusted on defense especially on (Allan) Mangahas,” said Hog’s Breath coach Caloy Garcia on the pivotal run. “We forced some stops and scored on fastbreaks.”
