PAUL SANGA scored 21 points including key triples that sparked Hog’s Breath Café to an 83-78 win over NLEX on Thursday to keep its unblemished slate in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Sanga sparked a 14-4 run late in the game for the Razorbacks’ fifth straight win while handing the Road Warriors their first loss in four outings.
The Razorbacks are in solo second place behind Big Chill, which has six wins in as many games.
Sanga hit a triple and three free throws before hitting another three-pointer to give Hog’s Breath a 78-72 lead. Philip Paniamogan buried a tough triple for an 11-point lead with 1:41 left in the fourth.
“We hit big shots in the fourth but I think we won the game because we played good defense,” Hog’s Breath coach Caloy Garcia.
Sanga had five of the team’s 12 triples in the game. Philip Paniamogan had 16 points on three triples while Kevin Racal added 11 markers for the Razorbacks.
Garvo Lanete had 19 points, while Ola Adeogun added 11 points for NLEX (3-1).
Garcia, however, tried to downplay the victory against NLEX in the early part of the conference.
“We still have eight more games, medyo nag-aadjust pa NLEX and Kevin (Alas) didn’t play. But we are happy with the win against probably the strongest team in the league,” said Garcia.
Alas is out with a sprained left ankle.
Joseph Terso had five of his eight points in a 8-0 run as Hog’s Breath took a 67-62 lead. NLEX answered with a 6-0 blast for a 68-67 edge but it was the last time the Road Warriors led in the game.
