FORWARD Kevin Ferrer doesn’t mind playing with an hurting back so long as Blackwater makes the Finals of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
The lanky 6-foot-4 Ferrer only had six points in a 79-69 win that gave the Elite the headstart in their best-of-three semifinals series against Boracay Rum Tuesday at the Blue Eagle gym, but his putback early in the fourth period gave Blackwater a comfortable 61-48 lead.
He also added four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Ferrer admitted he hurt his back due to overfatigue.
The young big man has shuffled his time playing for University of Santo Tomas in a preseason tournament and representing the Philippines in the FIBA-Asia 3x3 Challenge in Doha, Qatar.
Hoping to help Blackwater clinch a Finals berth, Ferrer vowed to double his effort despite his hurting back.
“Hindi naman ito mawawala agad-agad eh. May therapy pa ako pero hindi naman ako titigil sa pag-wo-work hard,” he said. “Last year kasi natalo kami kaya ngayon pipilitin namin para makuha ang Finals berth.”
Game Two of the semis is set Thursday also at the Blue Eagle gym.
