GELO Alolino converted the game-winning field goal with 4.6 seconds left as Tanduay edged AMA Online Educatio, 86-84, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO gym.
Alolino scored 20 points, his late basket giving the Rhum Masters a two-point gap. Rashawn McCarthy missed a potential game-winning triple and Tanduay finished the elimination round with an 8-4 win-loss slate.
Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson said the win was a test for the Rhum Masters, who will have to win twice against a higher-seeded oppponent in the playoffs.
“Maganda rin silang barometer sa game na ‘to,” said Chongson. “They gave us a run for our money pero nag-hold pa rin ‘yung character ng team.”
James Martinez, who two days later scored a league record 58 points against Topstar on Tuesday, and McCarthy had 32 points apiece for AMA.
