    Gamboa Coffee-St. Clare rallies in fourth to beat Perpetual Help in Aspirants Cup

    ARIS Dionisio scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth period as Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare rallied to beat Perpetual Help, 78-73, in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Monday at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

    The lanky Dionisio also had eight rebounds, four steals and six blocks.

    Mohammed Pare of Mali scored 16 and Trevis Jackson added 11 points as Gamboa improved to a 3-2 win-loss record.

    Down 49-61 early in the fourth frame, the Coffee Lovers went on a 17-4 run capped by Dionisio's baseline jumper for a 66-65 lead with 4:58 remaining.

    It was then a nip-and-tuck affair before the Coffee Lovers broke away on Chris Bitoon's free throws with 54.5 ticks left.

    "Nag-adjust kami sa depensa. Nag-adjust kami sa pick and roll and dun sila nataranta e, dami namin steals sa huli," said Gamboa coach Jinino Manansala, whose team registered 13 steals.

    The Altas seized control early, taking a 21-10 lead in the opening frame that they sustained until the first minutes of the period.

    Rey Peralta led Perpetual with 17 points, John Rey Villanueva scored 13 and Edgar Charcos had 11 markers, three rebounds and six assists.

    Nigeria’s Prince Eze had 11 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks but turned the ball over seven times as Perpetual absorbed its third loss in five outings.

    Perpetual Help 73 — Peralta 17, Villanueva 13, Charcos 12, Aurin 11, Eze 11, Coronel 6, Pido 3, Mangalino 0, Precillas 0, Tiburcio 0.
