GAB Banal showed the way as Go for Gold rained down on Che’Lu Bar and Grill to equalize the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Finals with a 105-81 Game Two thumping on Tuesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The MVP contender was almost flawless from downtown, going 7 of 8 from the three-point line and finishing with 33 points, on top of six rebounds and four assists as the Scratchers finally got one over the Revellers.
Kris Porter added 16 points and six rebounds, Ron Dennison got 12 points, three boards and two dimes, and Paul Desiderio bounced back with 10 points.
Refusing to go down, 0-2, Go for Gold was on-point from deep, going 15-of-29, the bulk coming in the third quarter, with a 28-point explosion pushing them up by 15 points, 73-58.
“That’s really the strength of this team. I wanted a team that shoots threes a lot, parang Houston Rockets and today, tumama yung tira namin,” said coach Charles Tiu as his side built a lead as high as 26 points, 98-72.
Tiu also said that if not for the Scratchers’ defense, his crew may now be staring at a 0-2 deficit.
“We’re able to run and make some easy baskets, and it turned to easy points for us,” he said.
Go for Gold and Che’Lu Bar and Grill break the stalemate in Game Three on Thursday.
Jason Melano led Che’Lu with 17 points and three rebounds, as Jeff Viernes was held to just 13 points, seven assists and four boards.
