FRANKY Johnson took over in the clutch as AMA Online Education overcame a gallant stand from Batangas-EAC to score a 122-119 double overtime win in the 2019 PBA D-League on Monday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
The Fil-Am swingman scored the Titans’ last nine points as they survived a thrilling contest against the Generals to snap a three-game losing streak.
Johnson finished with 37 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as he formed a perfect 1-2 punch with Joshua Munzon, who fired 38 points, 16 boards, seven dimes and six steals.
"Siguro yung composure na lang ng players. Sabi ko sa kanila, nandito na rin lang tayo so dapat manalo na tayo. Dapat may puso tayo na ipaglaban yung team natin," said coach Mark Herrera.
Munzon had his chances to win the game twice, but he bobbled the ball late in regulation before his shot at the end of the first overtime clanked off the rim.
Johnson took matters to his own hands late as AMA hiked its win-loss record to 2-3.
Ryan Arambulo also got a double-double of 18 points, 12 rebounds while adding and three steals in his return to the Titans, while Embons Bonleon got 11 points and eight boards off the bench.
Batangas-EAC suffered its fourth straight defeat to drop to 1-5.
Earvin Mendoza and Cedric de Joya wound up with 26 points apiece for the Generals.
