AFTER being given limited minutes in NLEX’s opening match, the San Beda players could expect to be sent to play bigger roles as the Road Warriors take on winless National U-BDO on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.
The Road Warriors and Bulldogs clash at 4 p.m.
The Red Lions, who have a tieup with NLEX, had little time to rest after winning the NCAA title on Saturday and were used sparingly in NLEX’s 93-60 victory over Arellano-Air21 on Monday.
“I just want them to play,” Fernandez said, referring to his San Beda players.
“Wala talaga akong planong ibabad sila… I just want to give them the feel on the court kasi iba ’yung D-League sa NCAA,” Fernandez said, adding that the Road Warriors have not been practicing as a complete unit and it helped to field the Red Lions for a few minutes against the Chiefs.
San Beda’s Nigerian import Ola Adeogun still managed to contribute nine points in 13 minutes for NLEX, but with Fernandez relying more on Gilas cadet players Garvo Lanete, Kevin Alas, and Matt Ganuelas.
Outgoing San Beda skipper Rome de la Rosa had five points, while Kyle Pascual had four. Lions star guard Baser Amer played only two minutes.
National University, meanwhile, hopes to finally score a win after four defeats.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 69-71 loss to Blackwater Sports.
