Cagayan Valley scores 43-point drubbing of MP Hotel to extend unbeaten run to five

CAGAYAN Valley remained undefeated in five games, trouncing MP Hotel, 120-77, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Eric Salamat and Randy Dilay did the damage in the first half of their 43-point victory, combining for 22 in the first two quarters for the Rising Suns, who stayed tied for first place with Hapee.

Salamat scored all 10 of his points in the first period to provide the spark for the Rising Suns in taking a 32-21 lead. Dilay had nine of the team’s 33 points in the second as Cagayan Valley continued to pour it on with a 65-33 lead.

The Rising Suns had eight players in double figures.

“We have great team chemistry. Everybody gets along together. I don’t see why we can’t get better,” said Dilay, a 23-year-old Fil-American who played for Division III Dominican University in Chicago.

Don Trollano had a team-high 24 points, while Abel Galliguez had 16 points. Dilay and Jairold Flores had 12 each, while Moala Tautuaa had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Rising Suns.

The Warriors absorbed their fifth loss in six matches.

MP Hotel (77) – Rogado 22, Escosio 15, Blanco 8, Bulac 6, Yaya 5, Pacquiao 5, Allen 4, Quiro 4, Jamon 3, Calo 3, Collado 2, Palma 0.

Quarterscores: 32-21; 65-39; 92-57; 120-77.
