CAFÉ France secured an outright semifinal berth in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup with an 83-72 win over Jumbo Plastic Linoleum on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Bakers led by as many as 23 points en route to their seventh win in nine games to join Cebuana Lhuillier in the semifinals. The next four teams in the standings will battle it out for the last two semifinal spots.
“At least the team is improving,” said Café France coach Egay Macaraya. “Last year, third kami. Ngayon, second. Nakuha na namin ’yung first goal namin. Our second goal is to go to the finals.”
Eloy Poligrates had 16 points while Maverick Ahanmisi added 14 points. Samboy de Leon had 13 points and nine rebounds for Café France.
“Mahirap ma-predict ang semifinals. The semifinals is a best-of-three. Wala nang advantage. But management is very happy,” said Macaraya.
Jumbo Plastic dropped to 3-4 win-loss for sixth place, the last spot in the quarterfinals.
Philip Paniamogan had 21 points while Glenn Khobuntin scored 14 points for the Giants.
