Bakers' improved transition defense key to Game Two win, says coach Egay Macaraya

    Jun 22, 2015

THE transition defense previously lacking was finally on display for Café France, enabling the Bakers to hack out a 76-70 win over Hapee to level their PBA D-League Foundation Cup Finals on Monday at Ynares Sports Center in Pasig.

The Bakers gave up 32 fouls to stop the Fresh Fighters on their tracks, something which the team failed to do in its Game One loss, said coach Egay Macaraya.

“Nung Game 1, we were killed by our transition defense and now, we're trying to stop them and it worked. So hopefully, on the third game, we can still control the running game,” said Macaraya as the Bakers sent the best-of-three title series to a decisive Game Three on Thursday.

The Bakers’ improved defense on transition also limited the Fresh Fighters to shoot just 22-out- 59 from the field.

They also stopped Hapee’s gunmen from firing beyond the arc, where the Fresh Fighters just made 3-of-19 attempts.

The Bakers saw their 18-point lead trimmed down in the final quarter, but managed to keep their composure at the height of the Fresh Fighters’ comeback to preserve the win.

“Composure and experience will always give us the lesson. We recover, we compose ourselves, and win the game,” Macaraya said.
