JIOVANNI Jalalon had 17 points, while Raul Soyud added 16 points and 17 rebounds as Derulo Accelero averted a fourth-quarter meltdown to beat Big Chill, 77-76, on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO Gym.
Although already out of the running for the quarterfinals, the last-place Oilers continues to fight and the hard work finally paid off, claiming their first victory in their seventh game.
The Oilers built a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
“We know we’re out of the playoff running but we’re still motivated to win our remaining games because we want to earn some respect,” said Derulo Accelero coach Paulo Mendoza. “We deserve to be in this league.”
Jalalon completed a three-point play in a first-quarter run that put the Oilers ahead, 19-13. Soyud’s follow-up hiked their lead to 12 points, 42-30, late in the second quarter.
The Supercharegrs rallied and Mar Villahermosa nailed a triple to cut the deficit to one with 1:06 left in the fourth but Big Chill could not make a field goal after that.
Big Chill (3-4) dropped to sixth place in the race for quarterfinal seedings. The top two teams advance outright to the semifinals, while teams in third to sixth places battle in the quarterfinals.
