DERRICK Pumaren is returning to the collegiate basketball scene as he takes over the head coaching position of the Centro Escolar University men’s basketball team.

Pumaren will replace Yong Garcia, who confirmed to SPIN.ph that he is no longer the head coach of the Scorpions.

Garcia also confirmed Pumaren will be taking over the head coaching position of the Scorpions, one of the successful college programs outside the UAAP and the NCAA.

Pumaren was previously the general manager of the team.

Under Garcia’s leadership, the Scorpions won the inaugural Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) crown in 2017. He also guided CEU to a finals appearance in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup that same year.

Pumaren is making a return to college basketball after coaching University of the East for three seasons.

Pumaren, a former PBA coach, is expected to coach the Scorpions when they see action on Thursday in their opening game in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
