Denok Miranda, Mark Isip make coaching debuts, but ready to play if called upon

    Jan 18, 2018

DENOK Miranda and Mark Isip made their PBA D-League coaching debuts on Thursday for Marinerong Pilipino in the Aspirants Cup.

The two PBA veterans are now part of the coaching staff of Skippers head coach Koy Banal, who incidentally coached both Miranda and Isip during their college days with Far Eastern University in the mid-2000s.

Banal said Miranda and Isip are integral parts of the Skippers staff.

“Natuwa ako sa dalawang ito kasi they’ve been with me since the old days,” said Banal. “Natuwa ako na they are willing to go the extra mile and make the sacrifice para sa team.”

Miranda, 35, last played for Blackwater in the PBA last year. Isip, 36, played for Marinerong Pilipino last year in the PBA D-League after his playing last PBA game with GlobalPort in 2016.

Miranda is the lead assistant of Banal and is in charge of the guards.

“Naishe-share ko na ‘yung experience ko sa PBA, sa mga battle na napagdaanan ko before,” said Miranda, who played for seven teams in a 13-year PBA career after being picked by Coca-Cola in the first round of the 2005 rookie draft.

Even though Miranda and Isip are now part of the coaching staff, Banal said he is still considering fielding the two this conference, if the need arises.

“Si Mark at Denok, naka-standby lang ‘yan. Anytime na kakailanganin namin ‘yung veteran leadership nila, anytime ready naman sila. Nakikipag-ensayo naman sila,” said Banal.

Miranda said he is open to playing for Marinerong Pilipino this conference if Banal says so.
