BORACAY Rum made upgrades to its lineup as head coach Lawrence Chongson hopes the new additions will have an immediate impact on the Waves’ coming campaign in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
After missing the quarterfinals last conference, the Waves signed up a few free agents including ex-pro Rudy Lingganay to boost their roster for the season-ending meet set to open on Monday.
Also added to the list are Arellano’s Prince Caperal and National University’s Robin Roño.
Boracay Rum still has Chris Banchero, Mark Belo, Roider Cabrera, and Jaymo Eguilos among the holdovers from last conference, although Chongson said the team is fast-tracking everything to mesh its retooled lineup.
“Alam mo naman ako, we try to be intact. Kung hindi namin matapatan sa lineup, sa familiarity kami bumabawi.
“At least, ‘yung replacements, upgrade siya. But then, ‘yung time naman. The way I see it, sapat ba ‘yung panahon nila with us? And then, maiksi ang liga, we only have 10 teams. Double time na lang kami,” said Chongson.
Boracay Rum kicks off its campaign in the conference against Cagayan Valley in the second game of a triple header on opening day at the San Juan Arena.
The Boracay Rum coach said Banchero will still be one of the key players of the team, with the Fil-Italian guard further improving his relationship with the team.
“Nagkaroon kami ng team building sa Baguio. Napakalaking bagay. One of the boys na siya, kasi dati may mga incidents na walang communication kasi may pagka-aloof siya ng konti tapos ‘yung mga locals naman, nosebleed sa English. Pero ngayon, na-address na,” Chongson related.
He believes Banchero will be instrumental in Boracay Rum’s chance of making it to the quarterfinals this time around.
“He will make an impact this conference,” said Chongson of Banchero.
