THE PBA D-League has cleared NLEX’s schedule in December, paving the way for Road Warriors players in the Gilas cadet squad to see action in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.
The Road Warriors will not have games while the Philippine team that could include Kevin Alas, Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual and Garvo Lanete vies for the gold in the Myanmar SEA Games from December 12 to 22.
The four Road Warriors are part of the Gilas pool along with Marcus Douthit and several collegiate stars.
“The entire NLEX organization supports the thrust to field the best possible national team in international competitions. We are happy to lend NLEX Road Warriors players in the preparation and participation in international tournaments,” said NLEX president Rodrigo Franco.
The country has ruled the SEA Games men’s basketball tournament since 1977 and the Jong Uichico-mentored national team will look to extend the dominance.
The Aspirants Cup opens this week, but the Road Warriors begin their much later because of the extended NCAA schedule. NLEX, which has a tie-up with San Beda, battles the Air21-Arellano Chiefs on November 18.
Before taking the SEA Games break, NLEX will have six games including a December 5 matchup against Blackwater Sports in a rematch of the Foundation Cup finals.
