CJ PEREZ kept Zark’s-Lyceum in contention for the semifinals in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup as the Jawbreakers defeated Centro Escolar University, 104-95, on Tuesday at the Pasig Sports Center to force a rubber match in their quarterfinal series.
Perez scored 11 straight points in a furious fourth quarter attack as the Jawbreakers forced a second match on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Perez finished with 26 points for the Jawbreakers, who led by 18 but found themselves trailing by seven in the third quarter.
Zark’s-LPU was still down, 90-88, before Perez took over, singlehandedly carrying the Jawbreakers ahead, 97-90, with two minutes left in the game.
Mike Nzeusseu had 28 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in his match-up against CEU’s Rodrigue Ebondo, who had 32 points and 25 rebounds in his first game back from injury.
“We know that they are going to bounce back. We know that they are the champions. There is no reason to celebrate. We have to make adjustments and prepare for Thursday,” said Zark’s-LPU coach Topex Robinson.
Jaycee Marcelino had 16 points and six rebounds, while Jayvee Marcelino had 11 points for Zark’s. MJ Ayaay had 10 points and nine rebounds.
“It’s all about growth and this is a great test of character for us. The beauty of this team is everybody can step up,” Robinson said.
