THE last time CJ Perez won MVP, Lyceum didn’t win the crown.

In the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup, Perez is determined to change that as he looks forward to the rubber match for the championship between Zark’s-LPU and Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian.

“Wala kasi sa isip ko ngayon ‘yung MVP,” said Perez. “Dumating na lang din talaga siya. Parang blessing na lang sa akin at sa team namin. Thankful ako sa mga coaches na tumulong sa akin.”

Perez added the PBA D-League Conference MVP to the growing number of accolades for one of the top amateur players in the land. In his first year with LPU, he was also named NCAA Season 93 MPV and led the Pirates to a perfect 18-0 in the regular season.

But Perez and the Pirates were unable to capture the NCAA crown in his MVP year, bowing to San Beda via sweep.

The 24-year-old Perez faced a similar situation on Thursday as the Zark’s-LPU squad were down, 1-0, in its best-of-three finals series against Che-Lu-SSC.

However, the Jawbreakers guard was determined to force a rubber match, especially after scoring just eight points in Game One.

“Sobrang frustrating kasi hindi ako masyado nakatira. Inisip ko na lang bago ako matulog, sa next game babawi ako,” said Perez.

Game Three is set on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena and Perez has vowed to do it all before LPU moves on to its preseason tournaments for the upcoming NCAA season.

“Ganun pa rin, hindi magbabago ‘yung energy at ‘yung effort. Gagawin namin ‘yung buong best namin para makuha ‘yung game,” said Perez.
