DETERMINATION will be the key for Cignal-San Beda, says coach Boyet Fernandez, as the Hawkeyes battle the Tanduay Rhum Masters in the semis decider on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup.
The Hawkeyes went on an eight-game winning run before getting stopped by the Rhum Masters in the opener of the best-of-three semis. San Beda managed to get back and force the deciding match on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
"It's going to be a matter of who wants it more," said Fernandez, who will lean again on Jason Perkins, Robert Bolick, and Pamboy Raymundo, and Davon Potts.
"We challenged them to step up their game and I think they realized that Tanduay is indeed no pushovers. We have to be consistent and focused on the game."
Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson, on the other hand, remains optimistic his team will pull through against the top-seeded Hawkeyes.
"We know that it won't be handed to us in a silver platter," said Chongson, who is banking on ex-pros Mark Cruz, Jerwin Gaco and Lester Alvarez to lead the Rhum Masters.
"We have to dig deep, bite and claw to be able to survive. Still, I'm very confident of our chances."
The match starts at 5 p.m. after the 3 p.m. sudden-death tussle between Cafe France and Racal.
