CIGNAL overcame a furious late-game rally from a gritty Batangas team to hammer out a 70-66 win in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Thursday.

The Hawkeyes nearly blew a 10-point lead early in the fourth period but recovered in the final stretch to rack up their sixth straight victory for a 7-2 tally.

Jason Perkins and Oping Sumalinog led Cignal's balanced attack with 15 points apiece.

Batangas, which fell to a 4-2 card, gained steam after back-to-back triples by Joseph Sedurifa and Jessie Saitanan and even took a 66-65 lead on a James Forrester floater.

The Hawkeyes then leaned on Harold Arboleda and Sumalinog in the final minute, and the two delivered the knockout punches with a three-pointer and a putback.

With 24.2 ticks to go, Batangas turned to John Ragas but the bearded cager botched a three-pointer.

"We knew we needed to win because Batangas only had one loss,. We have to bring someone down to improve our chance (sa top two spot)," said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez, whose team took the second spot behind unbeaten Flying V (6-0).
