CHE’LU Bar and Grill handed Go for Gold its first defeat, 97-95, in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Tuesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig,
Chris Bitoon drained seven triples in the game, none bigger than his go-ahead trey with 15.5 seconds that gave the Revellers the slim 96-95 lead.
Jeff Viernes then kept Gab Banal from making a three on the other end before his split in the last 4.2 seconds for the final count.
Paul Desiderio had a chance to win the game for Go for Gold, but his triple at the buzzer went wide right.
Bitoon poured 31 points on a 7-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, to go with six rebounds and four assists.
“Makakaboost ng confidence namin ito going to the second round. This win can boost our morale especially with us beating a top team. More or less, we know where we stand,” said coach Stevenson Tiu.
Jessie Collado contributed 20 points and seven rebounds, while Viernes scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half to set the pace for the Revellers.
Trailing 70-80 early in the fourth quarter, the Revellers fought back to take a 93-89 edge with 1:38 remaining.
Desiderio’s triple and Jerwin Gaco’s three-point play allowed the Scratchers to reclaim the lead, 95-93, in the final 56.4 ticks, but that only set the stage for Bitoon’s late-game heroics as Che’Lu racked its fourth straight victory.
Gabriel Banal and Paul Desiderio posted 14 points apiece for the Scratchers, while Matt Salem followed it up with 13 markers and four boards.
