REDEMPTION or breakthrough?
The two best teams this conference clash for all the marbles as Che’Lu Bar and Grill and Go for Gold battle it out in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Finals on Thursday.
Winding up in the finals after taking the top two spots in the eliminations, the Revellers and the Scratchers clash at 5 p.m. as the Game One of the best-of-five championship duel gets going at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
For Che’Lu coach Stevenson Tiu, it’s a chance for his side to redeem itself after finishing runner-up in the Aspirants’ Cup to Zark’s Burger-Lyceum.
“Yun pa rin naman ang challenge ng management sa amin, to go for it,” he said.
This time, it’s different as Jeff Viernes vowed to be here for the long run while also adding a few key pieces in Levi Hernandez and hardworking bruiser Jessie Collado.
Advantage is on the Revellers’ side after taking both of the teams’ elimination battles – a 97-95 win on July 3 and a 74-68 triumph on July 26.
Tiu, though, knows better not to put too much on those previous meetings.
“Back to zero na ito. Hindi magiging ganoong kadali yun para sa amin kasi championship na ito eh,” he said.
Meanwhile, Go for Gold coach Charles Tiu is looking at that as he knows that Che’Lu owns his side’s number.
“They beat us twice and we’ve really struggled against them,” he said, acknowledging that his crew, though loaded with veterans with Gab Banal, Jai Reyes and Jerwin Gaco, remains as the underdog in this series.
Tiu is remaining positive, though, knowing that with the spotlight this bright, you have to throw everything out of the window and fight with everything that you have.
“The good thing is it’s 0-0 in the Finals and it should be a good matchup.”
