CENTRO Escolar University guns for joint Foundation Group leadership when it faces Perpetual in the 2019 PBA D-League on Monday at Paco Arena in Manila.
The Scorpions scored a 93-76 win over Diliman College-Gerry's Grill last Feb. 19 in their opener.
Senegalese big man Maodo Malick Diouf poured a monster statline of 15 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in that win.
"I think he has really improved tremendously," said coach Derrick Pumaren of the 19-year-old bruiser. "He's been with us for less than a year. He only came to us in July, so wala pa siyang one year sa akin. He has not tasted how to lift weights nung dumating sa amin, but he's improved a lot."
Providing support for Diouf will be veterans Tyron Chan and Rich Guinitaran as CEU eyes to join Metropac-San Beda and Valencia City Bukidnon-SSCR atop the standings in the 4 p.m. clash.
But Perpetual will be no easy opponent.
Coach Frankie Lim believes that he has done everything in his power to fasttrack the Altas' rebuild.
That could be seen in their close 85-75 defeat to Metropac-San Beda last Feb. 21, as transferee Ben Adamos, returning Keith Pido, and holdovers Edgar Charcos, Tonton Peralta, and Kim Aurin play a big part in the Las Pinas crew's campaign here.
The Masterpiece Clothing-Trinity University of Asia and Diliman College-Gerry's Grill will serve as the curtain-raiser at 2 p.m. in this all-Foundation Group gameday.
