    CEU hands UCBL champ Diliman College beating for rousing D-League start

    CENTRO Escolar University proved that in this side of town, it is still the king.

    The Scorpions dealt rival and UCBL champion Diliman College-Gerry's Grill a ruthless 17-point beating, 93-76, Tuesday in the 2019 PBA D-League at Paco Arena in Manila.

    Rich Guinitaran, Tyron Chan, and Senegalese big man Maodo Malick Diouf conspired in CEU's 29-point third quarter explosion to humble the Blue Dragons in their Foundation Group opener.

    Diouf unfurled 15 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, while Chan added 11 of his 15 points in the third frame, to go with six rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

    Guinitaran, who nabbed 13 points, five boards, two dimes, and two steals, was pivotal in the killer 12-0 run to start the frame as the Scorpions took hold of a 53-37 lead and never looked back.

    Franz Diaz found John Earl Lisbo for a nice alley-oop connection to finish the dream third period for CEU to make it 70-49, before the lead further ballooned to 25 numerous times in the fourth frame.

    "Actually, I'm surprised with the way we played today. I'm surprised with the energy and I'm happy with the way the boys were able to block out the NCRAA and come out with a lot of energy," said coach Derrick Pumaren as the Scorpions are also in the championship round against PMMS.

    Beninese big man Kevin Gandjeto topped the Blue Dragons with 18 points and nine rebounds, as Joseph Brutas got 14 points and five boards in the losing cause.
