CEBUANA Lhuillier broke down AMA University in a clinical 73-55 victory to notch its first winning streak in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Monday at the Marikina Sports Center.
The Gems banked on a fourth-quarter surge to pull away from the Titans and register their second straight victory and fourth overall in seven games while handing their victims their fifth loss in eight outings.
The Gems also solidified their hold of fifth spot as the playoff contenders are starting to find their groove after a rough start to the conference.
“Kahit papano, nakikita ko na yung consistency ng maturity at teamwork na wala nung previous games,” Gems coach Boycie Zamar said. “Hopefully magtuloy-tuloy pa.”
Norbert Torres typified the maturity as the La Salle stalwart threw his weight around to scatter 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting along with eight boards, three assists, and three blocks in 25 minutes.
The Gems protected an eight-point lead at the end of the third quarter, before breaking the game wide open in the final frame, where they outscored the Titans, 20-10, behind Torres’ seven markers.
Joseph Eriobu led the Titans with 14 points, seven rebounds, and one block in a losing effort.
