CARL Bryan Cruz had 21 points, Paul Zamar added 17, and CafeFrance secured a win in the first game of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup with an 89-64 win over Topstar ZC Mindanao Aguilas on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Cruz and Zamar combined for six of the Bakers’ 12 triples as they started their title defense on a brght note.
“As I’ve said, one game at a time. The only thing I’m asking for the boys is to focus on every game, then let’s see what will happen,” said CafeFrance coach Egay Macaraya.
The Bakers led throughout, although the Ahuilas managed to cut the deficit to just six points, 45-39, in the third period. But CafeFrance regained composure, with Cruz and Zamar hitting timely shots.
“They have to understand that they have to overcome those obstacles. Hindi ako tumawag ng timeout because I want them to feel na kaya nila ‘yan. They have to learn and compose themselves kesa mag-rely sila sa labas,” said Macaraya.
Samboy de Leon had 12 points for the Bakers, who face Racal Tile Master next Thursday.
Gino Jumao-as and Dexter Garcia had 11 points each for the Aguilas.
