CAIDA Tiles built a big lead and managed to hold on for the victory, beating Phoenix Petroleum-Far Eastern University, 108-91, on Monday to get back to its winning ways in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Jio Jalalon scored 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the Tile Masters, who led by as many as 24 points en route to victory.

Caida Tiles improved its win-loss record to 4-1, preserving the win this time. The Tile Masters also took a 24-point lead over Café France in their previous game only to lose, 90-87.

Mac Belo scored 41 points, setting a new league record, although it was not enough to keep the Accelerators from absorbing their first loss in four games.

Belo surpassed the league record for most points scored in a game at 40, set by AMA’s Jerramy King early last year and later matched by Cebuana Lhuillier’s Allan Mangahas.

Caida coach Caloy Garcia said the Tile Masters were moving the ball better in this game, a big improvement from the loss to Café France. Caida had 23 assists compared to 12 by Phoenix Petroleum.

“I think we were moving the ball a lot better in this game especially on the zone offense,” said Garcia.

“I think that was the key. We were able to establish our zone offense by moving the ball and scoring.”

Philip Paniamogan had 19 points while Jason Perkins chipped in 12 for the Tile Masters. Rey Nambatac had 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Phoenix played without UST star Ed Daquioag.
