CAGAYAN Valley wasted a huge lead before holding off Blackwater, 75-68, in the PBA D-League Aspirant's Cup on Monday at Trinity Gym in Quezon City.
The Rising Suns saw their 17-point lead trimmed down to two after the Elite went on a scoring rampage to edge close 56-60 at the end of the third and Jericho Cruz scored on a drive at the start of the fourth to make it 58-60.
But Adrian Celada's triple gave Cagayan some more breathing room, 71-66, with 3:16 left and the Rising Suns moved to fourth spot with a 6-2 win-loss card.
Mark Bringas had 21 points for the Rising Suns, while Celada and Jason Melano added 12 and 11, respectively.
Pari Llagas made 17 points, while Gilbert Bulawan and Cruz each had 13 markers for Blackwater, which suffered its second loss in six games.
